I saw this link posted on another forum. I thought these were some pretty interesting numbers (especially the very last one).

    Gentlemen,

Let me be the first to congratulate you, jointly and severally, on being a class of men far above average:

The average man spends 10-15 hours a year shaving.
The average shave lasts 3 ½ minutes.
I would hazard a guess that 3 1/2 minutes gets most of us through the early prep and into the stropping... as for 10-15 hours a year, ha! I can probably do 10 hours in a month with my DE, because I'm fast with it... as for straights... again, ha. Of course, you'd probably have to count honing time as shaving time, too, because I think they mean "time spent involved in shaving".

I think they're right that people begin shaving regularly when they start working regularly--there's something about the belief that your economic future depends on your appearance that really kicks it in.

I congratulate Edge on a webpage whose spelling and grammar are excellent.

3 1/2 minutes to shave!!! I take more time to wipe my ass!! My shaving regimen, from out of the shower to completion, takes about 12 minutes or so, and that's probably conservative.

I take about 3 1/2 minutes to select which razor I'm going to use. A similar amount of time then goes in to pondering and probably reconsidering that choice.

The maths does not add up, 3.5 mins a day works out at 25 hours.

It take me between 10min and 30 min depending on many factors.

Well, it's a bit closer--the same page also says that most college guys shave four days a week and most adult men shave six days a week.

So if you have approximately 52 of each day in a given year, that's 208 college shaving days and 312 adult shaving days.

    208 days x 3.5 minutes = 728 minutes
    312 days x 3.5 minutes = 1092 minutes (yes, I know the units don't work)

    728 minutes x (1 hour/60 minutes) = 12.13 hours
    1092 minutes x (1 hour/60 minutes) = 18.2 hours

So assuming that you have roughly equal proportion of men in a given decade and most guys shave until they're 80, you've got:

    (1 x (12.13 hours)) + (6 x (18.2 hours)) / 7 = 17.3 hours average shaving time per year

Using these highly accurate data we've received, of course. It's probably inaccurate that most highschoolers shave four times a week, though, and it's also unlikely that the population breakdown remains constant from 10 to 80, and that all 79 year olds shave six times per week. I didn't consider that Edge says men who are working shave six times per week, therefore calling into question the shaving habits of retired gentlemen.

Tongue in cheek makes it easier to shave those areas.

    .
In that case you should also add the time spent shopping for new shavers and cartriges. In any case I didn't go straight because of its speed. The quality of the shave is what attracted me to it.
