Thanked: 74Thumbnotches?
I have a Boker with a thumbnotch. I like the shave the blade gives, but the thumbnotch gets in the way when stropping. I also hold the blade from front to back, instead of from top to bottom, so I don't even use the thumbnotch.
I was wondering what other peoples thoughts are on the thumbnotch.
Here is my Boker, just for some eyecandy.

It's one of those things you just have to figure out. If you spend enough time stropping thumbnotches, you won't mind the difference as much. You'll get there.
PS: That is a beautiful Boker. I used to have one, and it was a fantastic shaver.

I like thumb notches although like you said some of them can affect stropping until one gets used to them.
Nice Boker!

I love thumb notches. The only thing I love more is thumb notches with jimps. With some razors, whether they have thumb notches or not, I have to adjust my grip to "that" razor when I strop. Some are easier to get used to than others.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Love/Hate relationship here.
I love this razor and it feels great inthe shave but I find that the pinch grip is so narrow that my hand gets cramped from trying to hold onto it. I keep telling myself to adjust my grip so I don't hold it in such a way to get tired ... but I forget to do that to often

I like them and have or have had several. You learn to adapt, but I do find that tight pins help a lot. A combination of loose pivot and thumb notch makes for a difficult to strop razor.

Thanked: 335Love-hate here too. They were the bees knees until I cut a bit of the end of my right thumb off and now with the missing part, some scar/callous, and a bit of residual numbness, the notchers are not fun to strop. They shave fine, but getting there is more of a hassle than it used to be. The big, thick, jimped shanks of the older razors are much more user friendly for me now.
Oh, yes, and another wassail,

Like anything else new it's something you get used to. I like em.

Yep, I like them, took a little getting used to but no more than anything else new.

I like them also. I have big hands and like how the razor rests in my hands when shaving. I feel uncomfortable when using a razor without thumb notches. As always, personal preference and what you're used to wins out.
