Going after ebay razor
Hi all,
I'm going after an ebay razor and I don't want to get into a bidding war with anyone.
It's 6634644907
J.A. HENCKELS ZWILLINGWERK STRAIGHT RAZOR NEVER USED
It's a 5/8 to go along with my 7/8.
Thanks,
Tom

Heh, I had that one in my ebay watch list. But, you called dibs so I'll stay out of your way. Best of luck to you!

Personally I would never post a link to a razor I'm intrested in. Now everyone is going to be looking at it. Lucky for you I'm not interested, no one outbids "thebigspendur"

I believe that Tom is asking us to extend "professional courtesy" to him in his quest to obtain ownership. Sounds fair. Of course, I'm no professional and FAR from courteous!
Tom, good luck on you bid!

I just prefer to fly under the radar and hope nobody else sees it

There's good points to both sides. I'd seen someone else post a similar request and followed suit, trusting that we'd all play nice - if it doesn't work out, there'll be more razors on ebay.
Thanks everyone.

Tom,
All this courtesy stuff is good but it is unrealistic in a public forum. You should not post links to e-bay, anyone can read these forums without even having to be a member.
Additionally, I don't have the time to keep up with all the posts and wind up reading these "dibs on razor" much later than they are posted. Plus, what happens if someone already was planning to get that razor?
I used to check who was bidding on an item but no longer do so. There are too many members to follow up on and just because a member here bid on a razor does not mean he will win. I've let go a few in the past for which I was willing to pay more than a member's bid only to see it go to someone else for a price lower than my max. I no longer bother with courtesy. Let the items go to one who is willing to pay the most. This is fair.
Just get a sniping program and be done with it. A sniping program evens the playing field and you don't have to rely on courtesy. If you are willing to pay more for a razor then it is yours.
Al Capone had a good saying: "You can get a lot further with a kind word and a gun than you can with a kind word alone."

I'm with Vlad on this one. When I see an item I'd like to have, I enter a bid in my sniping program. If I get it, fine, if not, that's fine too. If I didn't bid on any razor that an SRP member bid on, I'd rarely (if ever) bid--there's alot of us out there and more every day it seems. On the other hand, there are many SRP members that sell stuff on e-bay. Is it fair to them to artificially lower the price of an item by removing potential buyers? I don't think so.
My opinion only FWIW,
Ed

Thanked: 0I would have to say I agree the item should go to whoever is willing to pay the most for it. The thing I do not understand is how a sniping program works. I have very little ebay experience. I don't understand how using a sniping program differs from entering your max bid on ebay. Is it simply because nobody else knows your bidding on the item. Please explain and pardon my ignorance on the subject.
thanks
