Always Insist On Better Pictures!!!!
The following razor, gentlemen, is why it's wise to ALWAYS insist on better pictures. While I believe the woman's sincerity and lack of knowledge of razors, here's the listing discription:
THIS IS A CLAUSS STRAIGHT RAZOR MADE BY THE CROGHAN CUTLERY CO, FREMONT, O. THE RAZOR ITS SELF IS IN FAIR CONDITION. THE BOX IT COMES IN IS ALSO IN FAIR CONDITION. THERE IS A PRICE OF $2.00 ON THE BOX. EMAIL ME WITH ANY QUESTION. THANKS FOR LOOKING GOOD LUCK AND HAPPY BIDDING!!
and here is the razor:
It has an odd look on the tip portion of the cutting edge but that COULD be due to the cloth the picture is taken on.
I asked for more information, including better pictures. This was the response:
not a problem, emails soon to follow. i am very sorry to say that i don't understand what you want measured. the enitre razore is about 9 inches long, the blade alone is 2 & 1/4 inches., just the metsl is about 5 inches and the razor is 1/4 in wide at the handle. it looks like the top edge of the razor may have broke. i am unable to tell is thats how it should be or if it snapped off.
i hope the info ws helpful. if not tell me again what it is you want, sorry, i know nothing about straight razors!
Keep in mind that the listing lists the blade in "FAIR" condition. If there's a suspicion that the blade may be broken why list the blade in fair condition? Truly someone who doesn't know about straight razors or the magnitude of a broken blade.
Here are the pictures I recieved. Notice the MAJOR difference between the emailed pics and the appearance given by the posed ebay pic:
I didn't mention the scuff/dings??? previously but truly gentlemen I don't think the woman would have provided pictures if she didn't honestly think this blade was "fair" condition. Based on this, I wonder what "good" or "excellent" would have been?
I emailed her a kind reply, thanking her for The pics and gave a quick summary of razors that will hopefully help her in the future and asked her please not to take offense as I'm only trying to help her understand razors.
I do think the scales appear to be VERY nice though, possibly genuine wood of some sort, I don't know. I didn't ask.
