Reporting in on honemeister Joe
Just got my black king and my W&B back from Joe today and thought I'd report in. I was one of the first customers to avail myself of his new honing services and to contribute to his new knife grinder fund from what I can tell
I haven't shaved with them yet but I can say that I already can see Joe went above and beyond the call. He reblued the tang on the black king (with my permission) and buffed out the scales to a nice glossy sheen. The tarnish spots are gone from the W&B blade as well. The razors went out looking ok, and they came back looking incredible. The black king particularly amazed me, it was a $30 eBay buy and it looked unremarkable until Joe touched it up. Now it looks really good!
I also got my new 10x loupe today so I took a look at the edge and bevel. It looked almost machine ground it was so even, and I saw no imperfections, although I'm not an expert by any means. I'm going to shave with one of them tonight before bed and I'll make sure to give an update on how well it shaves but right now I'm expecting the blades to simply scare the whiskers off my face.
Thanks, Joe!

I couldn't decide which razor to shave with of the two I just got back from Joe. The W&B is such a nice old razor that just reeks of elegance, and the black king is like the ugly girl you used to treat badly in high school and when you see her at the reunion she's a stone fox and you're kicking yourself over and over... except this time I got the fox. This razor went out to Joe's house as the ugly girl and came back as the fox. He originally told me I might have overpaid for it and then after he cleaned it up he told me he thought about trying to trade me out of it and that I indeed got a deal
I decided on the good ol' sheffield and shaved with the W&B. I just finished a few minutes ago.
I have but one word to say to you, Mr. Chandler...
Freakin' wow.
Ok, that's two words.
This razor went out pulling like a bitch and it scraped my face raw. I worked and worked and worked it on the pasted paddle and it *STILL* pulled like a bitch and scraped me every time it came within five miles of my face. It came back from your house and is the smoothest shaver I own now (well, until I try the black king). I even finally managed to get a decent third pass cross grain on my neck without any problems or irritation (first time for me). All I did was 30 trips on a tony "the pimp" paddle strop and away she went. When I turned off my blues CD and listened closely I could hear the tiny shrieks of terror from my whiskers as the blade came across my face each pass.
I tossed on my royall lyme and I'm used to getting a hell of an exfoliated alcohol burn. I got the barest hint of a tingle this time which tells me I lost a LOT less skin. This is one of the smoothest shaves I've gotten since I sent the feather off to liberation in your house
Thanks Joe, you've got my solid recommendation. Best money I ever spent. Woulda been a steal at twice the price.
