Thanked: 0Where to get a straight shave in NYC?
hey guys, my first post i've never had a straight razor shave before until today. i checked out this place called Spiff, but after they went WTG with a disposable straight, they went ATG with the regular cartridge. i wanted an authentic straight shave so i posted this hoping someone can recommend a place? i wouldn't even mind paying a member to do one for me, i just wanna get a feel for what it's like. thanks guys

Well, I can't help you being that I've been to NY once...but if you are ever in San Diego, check out Dapper Jays in La Mesa. They are highly rated and recommended by many locals. It's a great man cave as they really do cater to men.

I have had a couple at Paul Mole barbershop. Not bad.....they used a disposable blade straight.
Truthfully, I usually get a better result at home, but I love the process. Reclining in the chair, the towels, everything...
You might check with AOS.

Thanked: 60Straight Razor shave in NYC
You can try Art of shaving, Frank's Chop shop, The New York Shaving Company, or the Freemans sporting club. I am sure there are other places but those are the ones That I've been to.
They all use Shavettes. I think Actual straights are prohibited by the health code (and good sense).
Try This. Let me google that for you

If you want a real straight shave do it yourself. You won't get it in NYC.
You'll have to settle for a disposable. No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero

I'd be surprised if there wasn't a barber who would give you a full on straight shave in NYC, even if it was with a feather.

Thanked: 0Tried FSC... not happy
Well I've tried FSC and most others in NYC, but the barbers don't always know what they're doing. Best shave I've ever had was done by a barber named Oscar in the lower east side.
His shop is on Stanton between Bowery & Chrystie. He uses straight razors, hot towels and every shave he does a face and scalp massage using this electronic contraption that looks like a really old school massager of some sort.
Great atmosphere too. Well those are my two cents, hope you find the right place.
