I hope that you are able to win it.

I have a W&B For Barber's Use that is, without a doubt, my favorite razor. It gives great shaves, and just feels magnificent in the hand. Mine has different scales, but the blade is the important thing, and it is fabulous.

That great big wedge can be a bear to hine the first time, but once the angle of the edge is set, it hones very easily, and holds an edge very well.

    You'll love it!

True, W&B wedges rock. I have a 7/8 W&B wedge and I love it. It made one of the better gashes on my face..

    Peter,
I have a WB nearly identical to this one. Haven't measured it, but it is by far my largest meat-chopper (perhaps an 8/8). Anyway, if you're able to get a shaving edge on it, let me know how you did it. I've been working on mine for months now. Everytime I work on a different razor, I spend 30 minutes or so on that guy. Nearly ready to ship this one off to Lynn! Please advise and good luck!

Fred, I was threatening to send mine to Lynn, too. I decided to give it one more go, and went all the way back to a 1K hone, hoping to establish a good edge angle that I could successfully sharpen. It worked!

I worked the blade with the spine and the edge in contact with the hone, and angled at 45 degrees across it. Using waterstones, I progressed through a 4K, 8K, and then a 10K, using the pyramid once I had the good bevel established on the 1K and 4K. The Japanese waterstones require more passes at each grit level than the Norton, and that's where I was having problems. I was expecting them to cut as fast as people were saying that the Norton cut. They don't.

I have shaved with it three times since my last trip to the hone, and it's just as keen now as it was when I honed it. It was worth the effort!

Thanks for the info Dan, I will try spending more time on the 4k as I don't have a 1k hone. It's good to know that someone has had success with this blade! I have a 5/8 WB that is one of my favorite shavers so I wasn't about to give up on this one. I will let you know what happens after working it this weekend.
