Default Joe Chandler Had Better Stay Away From My Wife!!

I had emailed back and forth with Joe for a bit regarding some honing on some of my best shavers. I built up my courage, packed all my razors into a box and mailed them off into the Abyss, hoping they would be returned in a better than new condition.

Joe let me know that the razors had arrived ok, and I was expecting to hear from him regarding paying the bill and such.

Well, well, well. While I was out picking up dinner, Joe had called my house. I arrived to find my wife, packing her bags. "I'm leaving you. Your friend Joe called. He's such a polite man and that accent! Plus, he was a police officer or something, so he's got a uniform. I'm sorry, but a guy in uniform with an accent. I'll see you later."

I managed to talk her in to staying, but it's a thin line. I picked up my razors on the weekend and all are in good condition. They've all been well taken care of, honed and even cleaned! My celebration shave upon their return was with the antique Ivory Meat Chopper, with the small antique Ivory razor used for touch-ups.

All in all, I'm very happy with both the level of service and the quality of service. If you're looking for a good honin' dont' hesitate to get in touch with Joe. Just don't let him talk to any of the ladies in your life!

Whew...for a second there I was thinkin' you weren't happy. Thanks for the kind words, and for the business. You don't have to worry about me and your wife, though...I live by the motto "Guns don't kill people. Husbands who come home early do."

Matt, that reminds me...Sunday in chat, one of the members said he needed a nice Dubl Duck shaving brush re-knotted, with a new hank of badger follicles. I told him I though you did that, or could do that. Hope I didn't tell him wrong.

I'll second the praise for Joe. I've got six razors in my collection (out of 12) that were honed by him. I'm learning to hone, but until I finally feel comfortable Joe's still my go to guy for any more razors I pick up that need a good initial edge.

Honestly, I'm completely happy with the honing service from Joe. Every step of the way, he kept me informed and up to date. This is especially important for me, when 5 of my 6 daily shavers are in the hands of a person I wouldn't be able to pick out of a line up.

For any one thinking of getting someone to hone your razors, you can't go wrong with Joe Chandler. Two or three of the razors had developed nicks in the past few years and Joe was happy to take those nicks out. The rest just needed touch ups and he provided that service too. From full hollow to wedge, all of my razors are in excellent shaving condition. The great thing about having more than one razor super sharp, is that when the first one dulls, I can take it to my Norton and my paddle strops and work at getting it back up to par, with something to compare it too.

I realized I mentioned my razors without posting any pics. For those interested, click the link.

One the left are two antique Ivory shavers. One little, one big. The red bone is from Dovo (a gift from my wife for our wedding, that one stayed at home so I had something to shave with), The white Dorko was my very first straight, the Dovo Pearlex was a gift from my wife upon our engagment and the Dovo Stainless was also a gift from my wife, when we visited the Art of Shaving in Vegas. I'm glad to have them all shave ready again.

And yes, I do rehair old brushes providing that I have the correct knot size available.

Joe honed my 6/8 Dovo special and
a little German made 5/8 Supplee Hardware
spike. He did a great job on both razors

Very good price and fast service.
