Default Flying with a straight razor

Has anyone had a problem with taking a shaving kit with them when they fly? Straight razor, not a DE or anything else...

It's fine in checked baggage but not in carry-on.

Whoaa, for a moment there when I first read the post I thought you had created some giant straight and were using it like a glider or something to fly around.

Just keep it in checked baggage and don't take a razor you would miss if it became MIA.

+1 to no problem in a checked bag. I travel frequently, and I've had no issue with the straight razor being a problem (I would recommend keeping it in a hard case though to prevent any damage). I travel with a SRD paddle strop and always used to sandwich it between clothing in my bag to keep it safe. During a TSA inspection screening where my bag was opened, the bag was not repacked with the same care. The smooth premium I surface ended up butted up against the edge of the bag where the rivets of the handle were and tearing up the leather quite badly. I now wrap my paddle strop in a towel and place rubber bands around it. So far so good. I keep my brush in my carry on.

    Default no issues

I have carried many knives along when traveling, firearms etc. So long as you follow the rules, which vary a bit between carriers so I always check their web site or call to get verification in print before I head to the airport. The couple times I have been questioned I then showed the printed instructions to the gate person and there was no issue. In those cases the agent was not aware of the airlines policy but when reading it and verifying with a supervisor I moved through the process.
