Thanked: 8Web info on straight..garbage ?
I've just had a long google session and all I can say is the web is full of absolute rubbish concerning straight razor care, honing etc..
If some unfortunate does not stumble across SRP he could be in big trouble.
One site suggested that all of their Dovo's come shave ready from the factory and only an occassional stropping will be required. Yeah right.
Another suggested that you should not pay more than $2 for a secondhand straight from any junk shop etc...And for this they should be excellent..What planet does this guy shop on ?.
So newbies beware..this is the place.

As they say, its buyer beware. The web is full of people who think they know alot but really know nothing but don't realize it. And when it comes to straights because so few people use them or understand them these guys can get away with it.
But, remember what Lincoln said, you can fool all the people some of the time and some of the people all the time but you can never ever fool any of us!No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero

Thanked: 0I read that article as well (about never paying more than $2) - its definately from the 70's.
So, here's the question. I think I probably did on and off research for a few months prior to actually getting my first straight razor. How come during that time I never came upon this forum?

RE: Web info on straight..garbage ?
I remember reading that article too - I believe it also recommended shaving against the grain for the 1st pass. I winced and decided against following his advice.

As nice as it is to get linked from classicshaving, I'd like to see the pagerank of SRP itself increase. If people do a search for straights, I'd love to see this site at the absolute top of the free listings.

When I first started with straights, I spent pretty much an entire Saturday afternoon on Google. There's a lot of conflicting information, and a ton of bad information. Fortunately I ran across the Yahoo group and I haven't looked back since. It would be nice to get the SRP site ranking better, but that's a Dave & AZJoe question.

A lot of the google pageranking depends on how many *other* sites link back to SRP, as sort of a "relevance" check. There's a lot of factors that go into pageranking in addition to just that one and it's not an exact science.
I will note, however, that when I went to check wikipedia I noticed someone has already linked the wikipedia entry to SRP as well.
