Default video of donnie hawley explaining how he gives a hot towel shave.. thoughts?

didn't really seem like that good of a shave.. but he gets credit for using an artist club.

I agree that it didn't seem like a good shave. That looked suspiciously like canned goo coming out of the "latherizer". The strokes on the throat were a pretty random mixture of ATG and WTG.

i've had plenty of great shaves with lathermachines.. it just seemed to me that he was randomly shaving small bits here and there and not really shaving the guy.. plus.. what was the deal with numbering the strokes?

i'm willing to bet he just rushed through a shoddy job for the sake of making this a quick video..

He did do the steps according to the way we are taught at barber college. I personally do not shave people in this manner I do the sides of the face first then navigate around the chin and upper lip. The latherizer he is using is a vintage model of the one currently in use at pretty much all barber shops in the U.S., we are not allowed by law to use brushes because of sanitary meausures.

Donnie Hawley is a highly regarded barber and pretty talented guy.

I've never had one of his shaves but I can vouch for his barbering skills. I sport a pomp and theres few out there that can cut em like him

Although he follows a traditional shave pattern, and that works well with a Feather, I prefer skipping the chin and upper lip and doing them last. I let those areas soak for as long as possible.
