When size DOES matter...
I have a very small razor collection, but find myself addicted to the mighty 8/8, and unable to shave with anything else lately. I only own one 8/8, but I have two Henckels on the way. Here is my problem...While I usually dont use my other razors I cant imagine parting with them. I see some of you cleaning house every now and then, so help me out here...tell me if I am acting foolishly or if you understand my reasoning. Here are pictures of my 4 razors and my reasons for being unable to part with them. BTW, sorry for the big pics I dont know how to insert thumbnail images
This was my very first razor, which was given to me by Lynn and because of that there is to much sentimental value to part with it.
This TI Evide Sonnant is 6/8 and barely used. It took Lynn months to hone it because the blade was finicky, but I can now comfortable shave dry with the grain with this razor its so well honed. This is the only razor that isnt 8/8 that I can bring myself to shave with just to give my henckels a break.
This razor I got from Bill, its a great shaver and I thought it was neat because of the aluminium scales, made by an unkown company.
And this is the blue beast. My 8/8 Henckels Friodur that I treasure and get so excited to shave with. When I compare it to my other razors they just seem to small and puny to consider...
HELP!

I can see your problem 4 nice razors but the 8/8 is really a beauty. I have from 3/8's to 15/16's (almost an 8/8) I love them all for diffeent times. e little 3/8 is great for a quick touchup While the big boy takes 2 days of growth off like nothing. I look at it as having the right tool for the right job..

JL,
You are not acting foolishly. I completely
understand how you feel. I'm sure as time
goes on you will start to use these three
in your rotation a little more.
Also one day you will have a son. The top
3 razors would be wonderful starter razors
from him. And all three already have a cool
story behind them. That's something that
you just can't get with a disposable or a
Mac3. A DE? Yeah......

That's some nice steel there JL and I don't think you're crazy. I've got a small peronal collection and each of them has some meaning to me. I know it will grow and diminish somewhat over time as new blades appear and gain prominence while others fade from importance, but I suspect I will always keep the stable 'manageable'. I'm like you that way which puts us in the minority around here I think.

BTW the other great thing about an 8/8 is that I just shaved off a weeks worth of growth (I have been sicker than hell with pneumonia and bronchitis) in single downward with grain passes in 5 minutes (I was in a rush). Its a thing of beauty....what a great work of art.

Thanked: 4JL:
Don't discount those other blades. I do most of my shaving with smaller blades and kinda reserve my Friodur 8/8 for a 'special treat'.
