Thanked: 114New Hobby Idea?!?!?!?
I bought a 19th century razor here on SRP classifieds and have been working it into my routine as I learn the art of the open blade. Using it couldn’t possibly be more fun. I just think it is beyond cool to be able to shave with an implement that’s 110+ years old. (Am I right, guys? What could possibly be cooler?) Well my lovely bride on the other hand doesn’t seem to share my appreciation and sometimes rolls her eyes when I start talking about my new hobby. Last night I was shaving with my vintage blade and going on and on how thrilling it is to be using such an old tool, and my wife turns to me and says in a slightly sarcastic tone “So, what is next? Are you going to start brushing your teeth with vintage toothbrushes?” Now there’s a hobby I won’t be taking up anytime soon ……. ewwwwww.

Explain it in terms she can understand .... money (eventhough that's not why most of us picked up SR/DE shaving). A pack of Mach 3 cartridges is $20+, about $4/cartridge. A SR on the other hand costs practically nothing per shave, since you never replace the blade and a jar of a good cream should last you 4 months or so. Your initial start up costs may be a bit steep, but over time they're negligible. Same goes for DE shaving, where you have to replace the blade, but that works out to about $.15/blade

Most women don't understand hobbies, unless it's theirs.
