Van Der Hagen stepping it up!
I just pre-ordered my kit! I wonder how it will perform.
Not expecting much from the brush, but the soap, mug, and stand should be nice.

I'm not sure I would lump VDH and luxury together however what you should be getting are some very utilitarian products that will do the job.

considering that so many places think it's ok to charge $25 just for an apothecary mug.. i'd say that's a good deal.

Thanked: 1185Well, yesterday I deviated from about eight years of traditional anti-badgerism and broke down and bought one of these VDH badger brushes. I've not shaved with it yet but for $7 I didn't seem to have much choice but to buy it. It's very soft and looks to be quite well made. On first glance a great value for the price but I guess the proof will be in the pudding.
I have however sampled the VDH Luxury soap on a couple of occasions and have found it quite nice. It smells quite nice and has a skin tightening quality to it not unlike applying an alum bar.The older I get, the better I was

+1 to that! I have used various types of soaps and creams and the VDH is a very good one in comparison. Great cushion and lubricates so the razor glides along and smells great too. The luxury had the addition of glycerin. Very little effort and I can whip up a bowl full of the stuff. Ranks right up there with soaps much more expensive IMO. Of course it's all a personal preference. I really enjoy the stuff but the next may hate it. Sometimes you are paying for a name and the right to tell everyone you use it.
What a curse be a dull razor; what a prideful comfort a sharp one

Their brushes go the distance but have only tried the VDH Glycerin soap, which works fine for sensitive skin. Also VDH is so readily available just about everywhere (unless you are really far from civilization) that I wouldn't give Amazon my money. And did you know, an apothecary mug is nothing more than a large coffee mug (Goodwill or thrift stores for about $1.00)?

Thanked: 1185Target has the soap and the brushes. And much to my surprise, VDH seems to be marketing traditional DE razors too. The one I saw yesterday at Target looked very much like a 1950's Gillette Flare Tip.
