Thread: After a ridiculously long hiatus...

...I'm back to the world of straight shaving. It had been about 3 years since my last straight shave, until this weekend. I had decided, after a lot of problems recently in other aspects of my life, that I'd take up something that would help me with my patience and my peace of mind. So, I dove back into reloading (ammunition) and straight shaving.

I had my first shave this past Saturday, with great results, at least by my (low) standards. I was using the Macca Root shave cream from The Body Shop someone had bought me. Got a really thick lather too. Since then, I've managed 4 good shaves (kinda hard with grad school eating up my free time), and all have been pretty good.

I have to work on my stropping technique, and I actually found a razor I bought at an antique shop that I need to send out for a hone and cleaning. I used that razor to practice a bit more last night.

I gotta say though, it really is nice to treat myself. I even went out and bought some Art of Shaving Sandalwood shave cream that is just fantastic. I love that scent!

In any case, I'm back and I'm loving it! Now I gotta figure out how to budget between my two hobbies....guns/ammo/shooting and shaving/RAD. That's gonna be a tough one...

Welcome back. I know what you mean about the struggle between guns & ammo and shaving gear. Latley with me the G&A is the priority. I've still got my rock chucker press, dies and what have you but haven't reloaded in a number of years. Around here you have to go 60 miles north or south to go to an outdoor range that will allow reloads. Your post stimulates me to go load up some 44spl with Unique or 2400.

Yeah, I'm changing and updating a lot of stuff, so the old profile picture had to go. The one I have now is from a duck hunting trip I took with my brother to upstate New York. Great times.

And thanks for the welcome back guys! I do recognize a few names from when I was here last. I'm also quite surprised that my signature has a still-functioning link to the Acronym reference post! Nice.

As far as reloading goes....I'm going to get on the bench tonight (before or after another glorious shave, I have yet to decide) and put together some more .243Win rounds to test the next chance I get. After those are ready (hopefully this weekend), I'm gonna start playing with loads for my .35 Remington. I do love reloading though.

Once you join here you can't ever get away. We just keep sucking you back.

Hey man! Good to hear from you! I think I might have some work for you, if you'd take it. I have three razors that need a once-over...two hones and one "what'll this cost to fix" kinda thing. I'll drop you a line later on.
