excuse my obvious ignorance but I have heard this type of razor being mentioned,
a feather ,what is it ,if anyone has a pic it would be greatly appreciated

The links above will help. The feather uses replaceable blades, so there's no honing or stropping, and the blades last as long as two weeks depending on the circumstances. The blades are not quite as long as a traditional straight, but they're much longer than a DE blade. In use, the razor feels about the size of a 4/8ths (it may well be larger, but it doesn't feel like it). Feather also makes surgical scalpels, and this expertise is clearly reflected in their blades, which are wicked sharp, much sharper than even a well-honed straight razor.

At least one of the members here uses the Feather very frequently.
