Thanked: 1what todo with a to course coticule
My wife got me a coticule (shipped from belgium) its 2"x7" and cost somewhere over $100 all told.
Everything tells me that it is too course and therefore unusable as a finishing hone.
question is what to do with it?
Id feel bad selling it on ebay given the fact that is not a good razor hone, and It is really useless to me as a razor hone and therefore i have no reason to keep it.

Thanked: 2209Sell it on Ebay. It would be a great stone for knives. List it in that category.

Trapper,
Send it back. I am no stranger to returning defective stones <g>. I was unhappy with the ones I had and took back a few from customers and sent them all back to where they came from. Coticules can be great stones but they can also vary in fineness by quite a bit.
I only deal with older vintage stones now because of this.

Thanked: 0I have bought a bout and a 2x8 in coticule from Howard of Perfect Edge. I like the bout very much, it's a gem, very fine and smooth. But the coticule is too coarse. Hoaward has been kind enough to take it back and exchange it for a good one. The stone is now travelling around the world from UK to USA as I wrongly sent it to UK (Strewsbury, MA) and it is being send from UK to USA (strewsbury, MA).

Natural stones are unlike man-made stones, their quality varies so much, so the vendor should be very careful when sending them to their customers.
