Extremely pimp gift. I really like the filework patterns, and I've used the same ones on my custom knives. Definitely inspiring, too, because I have a near-mint matched pair of those same razors. I'm with Firestart...if he don't like those, let us know and we'll come over and beat some sense into him.

Thanks all. I hope he likes it. We'll find out this evening I guess.

As far as working the back of a finished razor, Peter (bg42) and Joe Chandler mentioned the tools and stuff needed in the restoration forum on this thread

Age started. My son found one of my flea market razors he really liked last year around october or so, a wostenholm with etching on the blade and bone handles. Trouble is the razor was 2 steps above junk. He's been using my rotation razors periodically since. This is his 15th bday. The way I figure, if public school can offer shop class and let them operate dangerous machinery at 12 or 13, and NRA offers gun safety classes to them as early as 9 or 10, not to mention the boy scouts giving knives at earlier ages, then teaching proper shaving techniques and safety practices when they start growing whiskers isn't out of line.

15th Birthday? I think my Dad gave me a bag of sticks and a key to the tractor
so I could plow and mow fields when he wasn't there!!!

Seriously, a beautiful gift, well thought out, and I'm sure he will appreciate it.
Sounds like you and your son have a special bond.

Tell him " Happy Birthday!!! " from ALL of us,
and we'll all be by later in the next few weeks to test drive the new blades.

Wow.. 15th is the birthday I'd like to remember... My first year in Canada... Dad in Serbia, mom on welfare (we were on it for about 6 months until she found her first temp job and never looked back since, so I guess the system worked for us), didn't have any real friends here yet, so it was kind of slim in the gifts department.
Serously Glen, your kid is lucky. I hope he knows how lucky he is.

Outstanding job! If you have any openings for another son...I'll apply!
