Default Did I pay too much?

    here's the link:
    http://cgi.ebay.com/Straight-Razor-W...QQcmdZViewItem

I was looking at the bid history, and this tbear guy, who seems to know what he's doing, stopped at 75, then at the last minute someone with just 1 purchase bumped it up to over 100. I had even more on it because I liked it but was really hoping to get it cheaper...

So what do you think? It looks beautiful to me but what do I know

    cheers

Unfortunately, bidding on an item simply encourages others to bid as well. Psychologically, there seems to be a hesitation to put that first bid up, and another hesitation to put the first big bid up.

Wait and see, sometimes razors slide by and you can pick them up cheap.

Default I'm the other guy at $75

I was looking through the eBay listings the other night and thought the razor looked quite attractive. As a result, I put in a bid of $75 and bumped it up to $76 when I tied a previous bid. If you take a look at the history of the new old stock bliades sold by Mr_Barence, and also the price for a new German blade with such a nice handle, I think you did just fine.

I stopped at $76 since I was unsure I wanted that size but would happily take it for my bid price. By the way, I'm a newbie too but I've been busy checking out prices for the past few weeks.

I think the razor is probably worth what you paid for it. I don't think you got a bargin, just that you paid a fair price for it. I'm sure its a quality razor and should give you outstanding shaves. Let us know how it shaves when you get it.

    Schatz,

interesting - you have been doing some serious homework.

I do not think I'll take the offer because I like the razor too, that's why I had so for it - but if it turns out it's not comfortable / doesn't work for me I might PM you. The thing is that I have relatively large hands (palms and long fingers) but average head, need to see how it works out

    cheers

    Izlat,

I picked up one very similar to that earlier this year for almost the same price. It is not a bargain but it is a fair price for a really nice shaver. Once it is honed properly it will shave great. I have over 80 razors and decided to pull 12 for my rotation. That razor is one of the 12. I have been thinking about getting another one. If you decide it is not for you, PM me and maybe we can work out a trade or something

    Cheers
    Chuck

    Izlat,

It's a nice razor and will serve you well. Like others have said, it's a fair price and I'd even say it's a good price considering it's a 7/8s, the worked back and decoration on the blade. mr_barence is a good dealer too. I've bought several razors from him. I think you'll be happy with it. Just be sure to have it honed before you shave with it.

And for that either practice on some junk ebay razors or have it sent to one of our honemeisters. I think they charge about $20. Actually you may want to do both, so you can work on your technique and have something to aim for.

    thanks for the feedback, guys.

I wasn't looking to steal it, just liked it and I generally do not want to pay 25% over something's *objective* worth due to lack of knowledge

yes, I have another razor from Joe Chandler coming in (for reference how a razor needs to be), and my dad is sending me an old razor, but it seems another junk razor from ebay for practice is required. Actually, I think I'll ask here in the buy / sell / trade forum - pretty sure others had to buy junk razors they don't need now (now that they are advanced) so why go to ebay

    cheers
    Ivo
