That was one big razor. I wonder how they used to market those. "When you absolutely, positively have to shave every last [expletive deleted] whisker on your face. Accept no substitutes."

This blade shaved your neck so clean that on top of removing every whisker, it also removed your head. I can see such a monstrosity being used for decapitation. Actually if you use it carefully, you get more of an angle control, but I wouldn't use it in the moustache area.

    That's quite a cleaver!

It's funny that sometimes people jump on these and sometimes they don't.

I got an 8/8+ wedge with good wood scales for a song, and no one else bid.

It's still not quite as masive as the one you missed, but good enough for butchering the occassional goat.

    I guess that's what makes E-bay fun.

    JL...

$80 is a bit much for one in that shape. Gary can afford those kind of things. And the one Howard got also needed a little grinding to take care of the uneven hone wear. Both razors are nice, but both have their drawbacks. As with everything else, sometimes you don't always get what you think you are going to get...

    Case point...

This one's a keeper, I can see it showing up in one of my presentations at some professional meeting sometime in the future.

    Great cartoon, Bill.

I have an advantage in that I'm not restoring razors to sell. I don't mind patina, hone wear, scale chips, etc., as long as I think I can make a good shaver for myself out of the razor. I like the signs of age and use, and don't feel the compulsion to remove them all. It gives me a feeling of connection with the past.
