    Default Razor Insurance

I was talking to my insurance company today (USAA) about my renters insurance and mentioned that I collect razors and many of them are valuable and considered historical artifacts that cannot be replaced (ok so I was embellishing a bit). At any rate, they have a ryder that will cover my collection up to $10,000.00 (still debating if its worth it, and still havent read the fine print yet.).

The kicker is though, if the razor is purchased as a collectors item it must be dated and it must come with some sort of documentation from the seller acknowledging the brand, date, and any modifications made to the razor as well as the amount paid.

So I wonder if I buy a razor (Im getting into the older ones that are hard to find and even harder to replace) if ANY seller is qualified to write on a napkin a little quip about the razor. The insurance company didnt seem like they needed anything very specific, and it does not need to be certified (for my more expensive stuff I use Chubb insurance and they need any individual item over $25,000 certified...unfortunately I dont have any individual item that expensive lol)

Anyway, if any of you have huge razor collections chances are that your homeowners insurance does or can contain a ryder to cover those as valuable items, but you might want to double check your policy to see if they need any sort of receipt or apprasal like jewelry does.

    JL,
Don't go the collectables route. Simply estimate the value of each listed razor and purchase a relatively inexpensive PAF (personal articles floater) from USAA. I have our wedding bands and other items covered on mine. The cost is negligible but certainly worth not having to recall each listed item and its value in the event of a loss.
