user gallery
question about the user gallery.
i just looked at my user picture gallery and it no longer exists. instead all my pictures are listed under a gallery called "foo"
weird i think. did one of you site admins have to rename my gallery or something like that?

Calling something "foo" is very unix-sysadmin-testing-something speak. It was probably meant to be renamed temporarily and moved back. The other one you see a lot is "bar." We use these terms a lot; they mean fubar, or F'ed Up Beyond All Recognition, which as far as I know is a military term, much like snafu, or Situation Normal All F'ed Up. For more on that one, try: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FUBAR

Thanked: 346No, I renamed it. When I first created my gallery a few weeks ago it showed up as one of my folders, I assumed that it was an initial folder that some admin had accidentally renamed, so I renamed it to "foo". After the rename, it disappeared from my gallery and I couldn't see it again. Always wondered what happened to it. Now I know, I guess...

Thanked: 0Actually, FUBAR is probably a backcronym as the word foo was also used before WWII (when FUBAR appeared). For more information about the word, see http://www.catb.org/jargon/html/F/foo.html . What was said about how the word foo is used as a temporary file/folder name by sysadmins (and other nerds), is very true.

PS. My use of the word "nerd" is not in any way meant as an insult to anybody.

Thanked: 346There was a glitch and this showed up as a folder when I created my gallery. I didn't know what it was and renamed it to "foo", whereupon it disappeared from my gallery. Never knew what the deal was until jscott posted his message yesterday.
