Thanked: 0I am new but was wondering if you ever found more information on Packwood. I have one as well and don't know anything about it. We are trying to liquidate out razor inventory from my father in laws estate and I don't know how to value it.

Thanked: 46About the only link I can find, and it's tenuous at best, is that they MIGHT have been made under contract for George Packwood's store. He's famous for the extensive advertising of his razor strops and paste, being the first (more or less) mass marketing campaign to run across several countries. This little poem, from Packwood's own advertising is all I have to go on:
Nature, regardful of the babbling race,
Planted no hair upon woman’s face.
Not Packwood’s razors,
though the very best,
Could shave a chin that never is at rest.
I have been in contact with the Cutler's Company of Sheffield and there is no mention of Packwood in any of their records. No brand, no tradesmen of any kind, nothing. The only thing I have regarding their value is a pricing guide in the book "Standard Guide To Razors: Identification And values", which pretty much suggests that Packwoods are nothing special value wise, even allowing for their age. They're not "two dollar store" items either, but their value doesn't come close to a Wade & Butcher, for example. I realise that's not very helpful but it's the best I can offer. Even defying forum policy on valuations, I just don't know any more. Sorry.

Thanked: 247This is a very old post. But for the sake of continuity I'm posting this here. There are several referenced books, which might lead to more specific information about George Packwood. Maybe even lead us to figure out a bit more about whether or not he contracted for razors. Hope this helps someone. If this has been covered somewhere, many apologies.
