Default Great feeling, giving back, and passing on a tradition.

My best and one of my oldest friends told me the a few weeks ago that he was shaving with a feather razor, but was not getting a shave quite like the one he gets from a barber he goes to. Now this friend of mine knows I'm in love with my straight razors and addicted to the hobby. So he finally broke down and against his normal self asked for a little help. I have been working on restoring quite a few razors over the past year, and have enjoyed the fruits of my labor very much, but nothing like what occurred this afternoon. This buddy of mine came over to enjoy a few pipe bowls of F&T vintage tobacco and shoot the shit for a while since life has been hectic and neither of us have had a chance to sit back and chill together for some time. When he got here I had a surprise in store for him but one that surprised me even more. I had put aside a Crown cutlery razor I had recently finished up, as well as a little travel stop to get him started. It was just great to see the look on his face, excitement in his eyes, and spark of interest just made my day. It was an amazing feeling passing a razor i spent a great deal of time and attention on as well as knowledge i have acquired to such a important person in my life into this new journey. We sat for quite a while while i gave him some starting pointers and information he would need to know. The phone call I received later this evening just completed the day. His wife called to tell me how I created a monster as from the moment he got home, tough dinner with his parents he would not shut up about his new razor and how amazing his first shave with a real straight razor was. Knowing that the time and enjoyment I put into restoring that beautiful razor will provide my close friend with years of fantastic shaves it just one amazing feeling.

I know that many of you have done quite the same in one way or another, but for those who have not I strongly urge you to one day pass it on...

That's some fine snuff to support a beautiful razor, mutually complimentary. I've recently aquired a liking of snuff and enjoy having a pinch or 2 of O&G and/or Bordeaux and going for a shower and shave, then settling down for a pipefull of whatever strikes my fancy at the time (legal tobacco only). I use both a straight and DE depending on my goal and preference at the time. I can't wait to share my enjoyment with my boys if they show interest. My 17 y.o. has asked a few question in the past but has yet to show any interest in shaving with a straight or DE. I've offered but I guess he's still content to scrape his face up with disposables, but then again his "beard" is still very sparce. I may give him a DE set when he graduates HS next year before going into the Army. I'll save the straight for after Basic Training.
