    Question blade edge

    Need some input folks...

Ebay purchase, great shape , but noticed slight problems with the edge of the blade under the microscope. Restored edge with the norton 4000/8000 using pyramid method from Lynn's dvd. Now edge shows is straight line line full length under microscope.

Followed stropping technique with paste strop and then just leather strop treated with mink oil.

All that said, the razor is not as sharp in the middle third of the edge as it is on each end. What do I need to do to get the middle of the blade to perfrom as well as the left and right side? I test with the hair on my inner forearm and this is how I noticed this problem. I would think that I would not need to go back to the stone if the edge is straight. Is this a stropping issue?

Sorry for the lengthy message .....thanks for your help!!

Mark the bevel with a magic marker and give it two light laps on the 8k, and check it. It may be chipping in the middle where the metal is weak, or the blade may be slightly bent so one side of the middle isn't touching the hone unless you put a little pressure on it. Or it may just need some more time on the 4k...

It could be that you're applying more (or even less) pressure to the middle of the edge and either oversmoothing it so that there are no teeth left and it doesn't cut like the ends. Then again it could be the razor and you might need to remove a little more metal to get it humming right up the length of the edge.

If you have a slightly warped edge (and it sounds like you do) then you will need to use the X pattern of honing drawing the blade almost all the way off the hone.

    Just my two cents,
