    Default First Attempts

Hi to Everyone who reads this:-
Dont know if this is the right section for my new post please excuse me if its not but I just wanted to say that when I introduced myself on SRP I listed that I had bought some old straight razors fom local antique shops but they need honing etc. There were some fast replies and recommendations that "Neil Miller" from the "Strop Shop" could sort this out for me, I sent him two he turned them round very quickly and supplied lots of info on what to check for, wear on the blades chips etc and use of a loupe to closley inspect them. This helped me to decide which ones to send for re honing.

When I got them back you could see the difference nicely polished blades looked virtually new and very sharp, hanging hair test performed well on both of them. I would definatley recommend Niels services to anyone who needs a razor bringing back to life. I am sending him two more to re hone another I was that pleased with the first two a Crown and Sword plus a T Glossop Silver Bell.
That brings me to my first attempt at straight razor shaving set everything up after got out of the bath prepared with badger brush and Truffit and Hill soap used a C Myers and Son razor first this wizzed off the stuble immeadiatly but I just did the easy bits so I can get used to it, cheeks, sides, and neck all with the grain. Next night used the Crown and Sword felt different to the previous but still shaved off the stubble couple of knicks this time but my fault point of razor dug in corrected that now. Finished of both shaves with a DE safety.
Just taking my time but enjoying the learning curve and expierience of Straight razor shaving. Every next shave will attempt a bit more just to get eventually a first pass.
Learnt so much in a short time since I found this site and looks like theres loads more to learn as well.

    Best regards

UK Bernie, its excellent to hear that you are doing well. You seemed to have ticked all the right boxes; truly shave ready razor, good quality gear and you are taking it slowly.

    Enjoy the ride.
