    Default Gramps razor coming home!

I am so excited - my dad went back to our country (Bulgaria) for his vacation (he works in Germany) and found one of my grandfather's old razors and a hone... He is sending these to me!

Dad says razor has much wear... anyway, even if not a shaver, I would like to just have it.

    Cheers
    Ivo

Lots of hone-wear indicates that it was used to a good effect. If I were you, I'd hone it up and use it on occasion just to remember your gramps. One of mine was a DE user who went bic and the other one died before I was born.

Oh, surely I'll try to use it! And looking at old pictures, my grandfather was a well-shaved gentleman so it must have worked for him.

My Dad is also sending me a Russian razor and strop he bought in Germany from an antique shop. He tried to shave with it and got several cuts; thinks I am crazy I am going to use a razor (he knows I have razors, but doesn't know I use them )

Another option too, is to see what he used (must have been a keeper if it has much signs of use), and watch eBay for a 'less used' version of it. You can say you use the same brand as Opa did!

My grandfather's straight razors were 'thrown out' after he passed away (I was about 10 at the time). I remember them in looks, and can swear they were Henckels (Seems Germans have a bit of pride, and keep to their countries werks , however my father told me that they were a bit rusty and had rather large chips in the edge.....

Anyway, congratulations, and let us know what the old-fella use to use!!

He went to French college... I don't want to say it but just imagining what it MAY turn out to be...

I hope it's something good as he was Chief of Royal police before the communists came (but then he was persecuted and basically banished to the mountains, so he lost pretty much everything) Oh, hopefully the razor is from his French / COP days and not from the Commie paradise

I know it is a great feeling to just have a razor from your family passed down to you. I just had that happen and am doing a little restoration work on it now. I know my brother is interested or intrigued by straight shaving so I am considering giving him the razor and one of Matt's brushed for a Christmas present. I guess I will have to get him on of Tony's strops as well. It is really hard for me to think about giving up my great grand pops razor tough. He may get the old Bismarck. All that to say I know you will love having that piece of family history in your possession.
