Very intersting thoughts in this post. Straights, pipes, cigars, and pocket watches.
I think the real "link" is that people have found ways to appreciate quality and enjoy that quality as a way to relax. Some things have not improved with time. The best shave comes with a straight razor, the best cigars are still hand rolled, its nice to have a time piece that just tells time and doesn't come with an inch thick manual in 5 langauges and doesn't require reading glasses to see the time.

I have a few humidors and about 100 cigars total. Cubans are good but over rated IMHO...

This past Saturday I did a few hours of leaf removal and yard work, had a BBS shave and then enjoyed a Rocky Patel 1992 Toro. It was a very nice day...

Straights, pipes, cigars, pocket watches, fountain pens, fedora hats...it's like another time or another place. Me thinks I was born too late!

The fountain pens seem cool as well.

Talk about something you can spend a lot of money on very quickly with no effort whatsoever.

Fountain pens are expensive. And I'm pretty sure ebay is full of counterfeits. :P

RT - who let you into my house! Out! Out!

Seriously, though... I only have one or two pocket watchs, but I love hats, and never cease to get comments when I wear mine. And I always keep one of my collection of fountain pens in my pocket for signing things at work. Lots of blue ink.

I like "collecting" things I can use. I only buy fountain pens that I want to write with, cigars and pipes that I intend to smoke, and razors I intend to shave with. Getting to actually use the things brings me a lot of pleasure, as opposed to just "having" them.

    +1 on Cubans being overrated.

I was just trolling through old posts and threads.
