Thanked: 0Razor honing in the UK
Hi I am a new member and have been shaving using a merker safety razor for some time and was looking to move on to a straight razor.
I have done a fair amount of reserch in to it and i am planning to do my own honing in time. However i am looking to get my razor that i purchase honed so it is shave ready so i can get a feel for how it should shave.
Is there anyone in the UK that does a honing service that i would be able to send the razor to for honing.
Many thanks
Tom

I've done one for the UK. I believe that there are no honemasters in the UK just yet. But I do some honing every now and then and post to my house is faster than to the states in general.
Let me know.

Hi Warbs1! Fellow Newbie and Brit here.
I made the mistake of buying a couple of razors BEFORE finding this site, and needless to say I have bought rubbish
Look at the sticky in the Newbie forum and follow the links there. I have since bought a couple of razors from guys off this site, and they will come ready honed and shave ready (And at very good prices!)

Robert the owner of TGS ( http://www.gentlemans-shop.com/ ) told me once that one of the old shaving places in London does honing, I forget which but it's not Trumpers - maybe T&H or Taylors?
In any case, it's probably easier to mail a razor out to one of the honemeisters from here like Alex or Lynn - at least you know you'll get a good job done at a good price.

I am booked in this weekend to a wet shave barber near me. I just had to see if they can do it better While I'm there I will ask if they would offer a hone service.
I am in Poole in Dorset so if it is possible, some arrangment could be sorted for you.

Thanked: 7I would bring your razor, they might well hone it for you whilst you're there.

They might, but most barbers offering straight shaves in the UK are using disposable blade straights now such as the Shavette by Dovo. Even places like Trumpers, it's due to H&S laws and the cost of their insurance. Some places don't even like shaving you with your own razor if you bring it, though Trumpers did allow this when I went as I was paying £75 for a lesson.

No joy on the wet shave at my near by barbers H&S laws were to prohibative for them to carry on with Straight razor shaves. They wet shave still but with safety razors now. The only barber capable of gleening any advise off took the opportunity to retire.
So in short; I can't help. Sorry
