I have a dilemma
I have been shaving with a straight for a little over a year now. I love it. I love every part. About a week ago I found a pretty nice DE in the bay and picked it up. Not having the time to clean it up before using it it was laying around until today.
I purchased some further razors and popped one in. Took a nice long hot shower for the prep.
I'm going to cut this story short since you can almost guess what happens next.
Ok so the dilemma. I now have 20 some straight razors that I love. And one DE with which I was able to get the most amazing 2 min shave ever. How do I decide on which to use and when.
I think I just got a new AD!!!
Oh yea wow so many different type or blades wow AD some more lol

When in a hurry or traveling, I use a DE.
I also keep one ready to go in my medicine cabinet at all times. I use it for touch ups and finishing some shaves.
When I have the choice though, I always use the straight.

Thanked: 1195Nothing wrong with having both types of razors in the arsenal, adds some variety which is always a good thing. It's up to you to decide what you feel like using on a given day. DE's can provide really fantastic shaves and are actually very enjoyable to use, so it's a shame that so many people feel they are only for rushed shaves. JMHO.

I tend to be one of those who will resort to a DE shave if pressed for time. In my defence though, I do have 2 very nice DE's so I still have to make a choice on which one to use. I still take the time to prep with a hot towel, make decent lather and do a 3 pass shave, so in reality the only time I am saving is the before and after stropping of the razor. OTOH, this morning I was pressed for time but I opted for a quick, yet relaxing and DFS straight shave. So in summation, pick which ever razor you want because it's a win-win decision.

Thanked: 88I use a DE when in a rush. It happens often enough that it's almost like the DE is in the rotation.

I'm one of those people who can shave just as quick with the straight as with a DE or SE, so using them when in a hurry isn't much of an option. Instead, I use my DE's and SE's to break up the monotony, keeping myself focused on the shave and not going into auto-pilot, gouging myself with the straight.

Me too.
If I'm in a hurry or don't want to concentrate I use a DE and sometimes I use a DE just for the heck of it. But you know, the shave is not quite as good as a straight and I kind of feel like something was missing when I'm done.

I can shave just as fast with a straight. If I'm pressed for time, I'll just do a single pass as that's enough to be presentable. I used to go back and forth, but the last couple of months I haven't picked up the DE. No major reasoning, just enjoying the straights. I had a couple restored by Maxi, finally was able to get nice edges off three more and traded one so I've had a lot to play with. I'll have to give the DE a run this coming week just for fun.

It's like a Bee going to flowers looking for nectar. Just because it stays at one flower longer than another doesn't mean that it's taste is sweeter! It's the same with Shaving and Razors......or was it Dating and Girls?? One or the other....
