I agree!
I do believe that when it was pointed out that a honed razor was unsatisfactory for one barber, but good to go for another is what's debated here day in and day out! (Shave Ready)
As Glen (GSSIXGUN) has repeatedly said: Just because it works for one, it may not work for others! Even regarding the old barber's manuals!!
I find that you don't know what works until you try it for yourself!

Thanked: 102I had a similar expierence many year ago with an old barber, Mr. Steve who owned Steve's Barber shop in Gadsden, AL. He was a gentleman of the first order and I learned much from him..His main contribution to my knowledge of honing was be very gentle and go lightly. Finnish up with two strokes across the heel of your hand. His razor of choice was a Dubl Duck No. 1 Special.

im surprised to hear of a medium india stone being used to sharpen razors, as i think it would be much coarser than a barber hone, although folks have shown that you can shave off of a 1k stone. did he have other finishing stones, or use abrasive strops?

The key point to the story to me was the fact the barber hated to give straight shaves.
