Air Travel w/ Straights
I am nearing a crossroads where I will most likely need to travel a lot for interviews for jobs. I like to travel with as little as possible. So when I travel by air I like to only have carry-on. With that said, if I want to enjoy a straight shave before hand, should I invest in a shavette strictly for air travel? I ask this since all I would have to do is pick up some DE blades when I get where I am going. Any advise would be appreciated.

Thanked: 247I don't think you'll have any other option.

Thanked: 247Actually, you do have another option...it is called express shipping
Simply ship your chosen razor to your destination, then ship it home when you are done (insured of course). We knife nuts do this frequently. It is also advisable to always travel with a Self Addressed padded pouch so that if you discover anything (or rather TSA discovers anything) that you mistakenly brought you can step out of line, and mail it home instead of any of the other alternatives.
NEVER try and sneak anything. Accidents happen though, and a self addressed posted pouch is your saviorLast edited by unit; 08-14-2012 at 09:52 PM.

Can straight razors not go into checked baggage? I haven't flown for many years so I am out of touch.

When I have to fly for work and don't have an excuse to get work to pay for a checked bag I bring a shavette and a DE and just pick up some DE blades at the local WM or Sally then send the rest home after. I may only need one or two blades but I'll be darned if I'm going to waste that $1.29.
I've also recently become infatuated with the L'Occitane travel synthetic travel brush. Works very well and dries pretty quickly. Plus it's in a classy looking tube/handle.
If you have big tubs of cream WM sells screw lid containers in the travel section, 2 for $1, that work wonderfully for travel and are well under 3oz.

But if you check a gun you have to lock it with a non TSA approved lock and it will not be opened in transit. I know a couple photographers who always fly with a derringer in their photo equipment (provided they aren't headed to a commie state). That way their equipment stays safe in the pelican case and nobody takes it.
