Couple years ago I had a little spot on the left side of my face. Doc said it was a little Basil Cell Cancer and no problem to get rid of. After the surgery, I had an incision down the entire left side of my face and it was swollen like your pic. Hurt like hell too. Had to avoid that area for awhile, but now I just shave over the scar.

    Hang in there.

Wow Lynn - from a little spot, to a scar running down your entire left side? I am guessing there was a little more there than even the Doc thought! Glad you are ok but man - that must have been a shocker when you woke up!

I was awake for the entire thing. Took them 3 times to get it all. I was freaked!! But as you have aleady noted, the alternative can't be any fun.........

Well, glad to hear the tumor was removed successfully, that it was benign, and you are on the road to recovery. You will be shaving with your straight before you know it. I bet you will remember the first shave with a straight after this surgery. It will be a good day my brother.

Wow! What is the timeline on the two pics? Is the first one all swollen up pre or post op? And then the second. I gather that is post but how long after?

It would actually be nice to be ABLE to grow mutton chops. I have the facial hair growth of a 12 year old Greek girl on the cheeks.

On my holidays, I saunter up to my wife rubbing my face and ask her if she's noticed my manly growth (after not shaving for a week or so). The answer is always 'no'. Then (after some prompting from me) she says 'Oh, THERE! Yes, very lovely'. This is generally followed by the standard 'You're a funny little man' comment.

Stranger, if you passing meet me and desire to speak to me, why should you not speak to me? And why should I not speak to you?

You know, it wouldn't have been so bad if we could have stopped at the original procedure. This was an outpatient process on a Friday morning. Drove back from Des Moines that afternoon and put myself to bed. All of a sudden I heard a "pop" in my neck and my face began to swell. Blood started shooting out the side of my face and the pain was like nothing I've ever experienced. Long story short, I was flown by chopper back to Des Moines for a second surgery and 24 hours in IC. I knew things weren't good when one of the nurses said "oh my God." The pressure was cutting off my ability to breathe. There's about a week's passage between the two images. Wasn't a great introduction to surgery! The thing that's annoying is the numbness in the cheek and neck. I know it will pass but I felt I needed a whine session! The family thinks I'm nuts to use straights in the first place so I turned to the guys that get it!

Nice to hear from your experience, Lynn! After 30 plus years of being a vagabond chef, I started teaching 5 years ago. I head up the culinary department at our local community college and straight razors have been a great "carrot" for getting my boys through the program. They're always interested in learning how to use a straight and if they keep a certain grade point and graduate, I give them one from my collection as a gift. It's fun to be able to introduce young folks to the world of straights! Lynn, if you're ever up this way, I'll prepare you a meal fit for a king! Let me know what your preferences are and I'll set up a 6 course with wine pairings and a presentation from our students. You won't be disappointed!

So, last night was the first decent, full night's sleep I've had in a while and I have a renewed vigor to head out today in search of that elusive Hoffritz slant bar! A 3 hour drive to Walnut, Iowa in hopes of a find!

The very best to you gents!! Thanks for the support!

That has to be one of the funniest things I have read in a while . To be honest - I think your wife has to somehow be related to mine (Scottish roots?)!

To the Chef - doesn't it suck when you get a chopper ride and aren't aware enough to enjoy it?

Giving kids a straight who hold a certain GPA has to be one of the coolest things I have ever heard!
