Thanked: 58SRP's High Caliber of Members
I just wanted to take a moment to commend all of you who've found this site and made it your own. I regularly check in and peruse different threads and am amazed at the willingness to help, the civility of tone, the free exchange of ideas and services; but, most of all, I am impressed by the humility of many of the members here.
To me, humility is the acknowledgement that you do not know everything, nor can you do everything. It is not thinking of yourself more highly than you ought. Humility is the ability to restrain yourself from tearing someone a new one on a particular thread under the cloak of anonymity and resigning simply to let the ignorant be ignorant still.
As a child of the 80's(grad class of '91), I'm beginning to sound like an old man with constant references to 'my day' and time. With such a disposable, impolite, and sometimes ruthless society bearing down on us at every possible turn, it's good to experience a fairly cordial site filled with those who esteem even slightly the qualities of a gentleman. So, once again, kudos to you all.

Thanked: 40I couldn't agree with you more. Reading the posts, both questions and answers, gives you the feeling that deep down we want to care. Even if it's only about shaving with a straight, it's a start.

Hey, watch who you call a gentleman. I resemble that remark!

That's the whole reason I joined this forum! The people who make it what it is. Well, and straight razors, of course

This is wonderful. Very true! It is incredible how helpful all of these fellow members are. I never though I would find as nice of a group as you guys.

I will tell all of you gentleman and ladies that it’s been my privilege and honor to be able to help Parker!
I’ve enjoyed loaning him blades so that he has a background of experience before he goes looking for razors!
I've also given him razors and a strop to help him along.
One of the main things that keeps impressing me is his willingness to use patience!! The call of honing/RAD etc pull at him, but he’s reassured me that he will follow my counsel and wait until he’s ready!
I’m confident that he will far surpass me once he’s honing!
I can’t say enough about this fine young man!

James, I can only imagine how it must feel for you. I know the pain of greatness. I, have to live with it. Albeit, the love and admiring of the masses is good, I feel the dark pit of what it is that you speak of. As, I. Can only imagine what awesomeness and greatness others may feel to feel that they are within my presence sharing a board. I must live the pain of never, taking that step, and seeing through their eyes, nor, actually feel what they feel in just being able to say they have heard of me. I guess it's a cross I must bear.
Yeah, right!!!!!

Thanked: 1587A kindred spirit! And see? Already I have a "like".
No, in all seriousness, the reason I and others like me have hung around here for so long is exactly this issue. SRP is not just an online forum - it is a community.
