    Default Competition - giveaway

    Hi All,

    Well 'tis the season to be jolly so I thought I'd come up with a competition.

    Twelve different woods for the twelve days of Christmas. If you are not celebrating Christmas just pretend it's twelve bits of wood.

    You have to guess what the woods are. I shall announce the winner on 24th December my time, which is 23rd evening your time if you live in USA.

    The winner will be the person who gets the most correct. If there is a draw then the first most correct entrant will win.

    Only one entry each.

    Please answer as below:-

    1=Red colour wood
    2= woody wood
    3= ?
    4= tree wood
    5

    etc..etc.. If you don't know leave a question mark against the number please.

    A clue...some woods are from New Zealand and some aren't.

    Oh I hear you ask, what is the prize.

    A straight razor with a set of my custom scales.

    Good luck to you All.

    go here and upsize for a better pic. http://www.flickr.com/photos/garythepenman/312363018/

    Great idea and very generous of you Gary, even though I don't have a metrosexual's chance in prison of winning. Good luck to the rest of you gents

    Can't figure out #8... so I may as well not try... I'm gonna let everyone else play. I have enough razors. Very generous of you to do this, Gary. I can't see giving anything away, myself.

    Killer idea for a giveaway! I recognize a couple, but lost on a few, too. I'm not entering...like Bill, I have enough, but still, it's a great idea for a giveaway.

    Getting the real wood colors from that photo is prety hard, as it is not color balanced, so I edit it a bit. Gary, you can PM me your e-mail, if you want the bigger sized picture for Flicker upload...

    ok, since I love wood, and for fun,

    1. Rosewood
    2. Flamed Maple
    3. Chechen
    4. Lighter than and similar grained as Wallnut, cedar of some sort
    5. Kauri
    6. Cocobolo
    7. Ziricote
    8. Buka, we use that for hardwood flooring, broom handles, everything. Hard and dense, Ilija can maybe translate...
    9. Gonalo
    10. Wallnut
    11. Spalted Wallnut
    12. Bubinga

    Ed, how is that?

    I am assuming the Serbian word would be "bukva" but I don't know the English word for it. Sorry

    I agree with three of those choices. This is going to be a very difficult competition Gary. Great idea!
