Fancy Friodur's and custom razors!!
I was just purusing the ol' razor shops last night, and saw something that people might be interested in....
There is a rather 'fancy' Henckels Friodur being sold a shavingshop.com for, what I think, is a VERY reasonable price (giving the design).
It reminds me of some custom blades that I have seen people makeing (i.e. Livi's fancy spine work, R.Williams big blades, etc) , or even some of the fancy H.Boker blades of old. Well, basically, it has what I look for in a blade, and is mint!
I'm thinking, if you don't have time to get in line for a custom make, the money for a custom blade, or the patience to find an old razor - this fancy, in mint condition - this is your chance! I just thought you guys would like a 'heads up' on this.
It's a notch tip (or spanish tip) file back (scalloped) 8/8 Henckels!

I'm thinking I'm going to treat myself to an early Christmas present...you know, since I've been 'shopping so hard for others', I think I deserve a little something..
The other sites seem to carry the same stuff as before (classic, knifecenter). I'm hoping they get some nice stuff in for the holidays!

I've got one of those blades coming...I can't wait to get some scales on it.

Thanked: 346Might I suggest that oryx scales would suit this razor beautifully?

As well as looking very nice, these are superb shavers. I have one in 7/8 and it's one of my favourites.
Tempted to order one of these though and have some custom scales put on it, I don't know if I can afford it at the moment though what with Christmas fast approaching.

I'm thinkin' custom scales too!
Hmm, perhaps something of the Mammoth variety?!
I like the fact that these come with 'plain jane' scales...I won't feel guilty customizing it!!
Those that do this should regroup after Christmas and see what we do with 'em!

Maybe I'm alone on this one, but I'm not really a fan of razors that have had their backs "worked" like that. I like ones that have ornate designs, such as Thiers-Issard's "leaf and vine" pattern or the ones with gold inlays; but this Fridour just looks like it took a thirty second trip to the grinder. I think "Brokeback Razor" is a more appropriate term.
I think they're better un-modified. The "plain Jane" scales could use a change-up, though, you're right. Mammoth ivory is a great idea. I don't have any of that ivory in my collection yet, but buying it from a supplier and having the scales custom-made would really cut costs. I love the idea of having the tusks of an long-since-extinct, enormous beast as part of my collection. I know I'd cherish a razor like that.
