Razor Information Resource
I would like to find out a little more about my old razors. (without keep posting endless questions on here!)
Can any of you guys recommend any usefull resources - either books or websites?
I would like to get into the background of some of the straights, but dont have the $$ to buy a library of books, so are there any 'Must Reads' ?
Any help will be gratefully received and thankfully applied
Thanks

Here's an old thread with some useful references: http://straightrazorpalace.com/forumdisplay.php?f=58
I've found some of those referenced in larger libraries. Try using the SRP Search facility to find more threads if you want additional references. You can try similar searches on other razor forums, also.

Thanked: 2Joe,
I believe your link simply links to the Razors forum, but no individual thread.
Eff,
Goins Encyclopedia of Cutlery Markings by John and Charlotte Goins covers cutlery markings from thousands of companies dating back to the 1600's or so. Some info on certain makers is vague, due to the difficulty of researching an old company, ie. existed for 20 years in the early 1800's. Most popular companies have dates, owners names, pictures of trademarks and other interesting info.
This book covers Bowie, Butcher, Hunting, Pocket Knives and straights. I've been able to find about 90% of the razors I look up, and I've looked up my own and any that I've seen questions for on SRP.

Thanked: 4942Try the links section right here at SRP. We have a historical listing in there.
In addition try http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group...orplace/files/ which is the files section of our original yahoo group. Tons of great information still there.
Have fun.
