Thanked: 58One Full Year of Straight Shaving!
I can't believe it's been a whole year since I first laid down the coin to order my first razor, strop, and various sundries. Since then, I've collected an assortment of 15 razors which are in my regular rotation and another 12 or so that need a bit more restoration. While this celebration isn't one of typical American hoarding, it is an appreciation of all things wet shaving. I've gotten to experience a collection of over 22 different double edge razors for my head, over 30 different soaps, 5 different types of brushes, and over 20 different aftershaves. The horizon of possiblities keeps my curiosity keen for sure.
With the help of others on this forum, I've been able to successfully restore several razors, one dating back to the 1830's, to useful condition. I never thought I'd derive so much pleasure in these simplistic rituals we've all come to enjoy. Others think me strange at times, and others give me space. Most cannot fathom this 'obsession', nor want to. Either way, it matters not. I enjoy it. My wife likes the fact I enjoy it. My kids think it's cool, and other men wish they were as courageous. Doesn't say much for the constitutional fortitude of the men of this age, does it?

Yes, it's a good feeling.
For me a big part of the enjoyment has been discovering a way to, enjoy something I hated for so many years, that was shaving. I wish that I had discovered straights in my early thirties. But when the hands get too shakey in about 30 years, I guess I'll be forced to use my DE's.

Congrats on your anniversary. +1 on Hirlau's comments on now enjoying what was once a required activity.

Congrats man! I'm only at 8 months or so myself, but look to many more good years of it.
So you are the reason I can't find any good razors around town in the antique stores eh!

Thanked: 58Actually, yes. Yes, I am. Thing is though, half the time I go to places they tell me, "man, it was just two weeks ago someone else came in looking for the same thing and cleaned me out". I know your frustration. Originally, I blamed Hoglahoo from Broken Arrow, but he denies it was him.
