Tony's Barbershop American Tobacco District, Durham, North Carolina
I went to Tony's Barbershop in the American Tobacco District of Durham, North Carolina this morning and had my first barber shave. Tony used a Weck handle with an Annie blade (version of the long single edge Personna blade). I told him next time he will have to use one of my straights. Even though I'm a cold water shaver, I let him used the hot wet towel and end with a cold wet towel. I bought a couple of straights from Joyce, the owner and cleaned up a Frederick Reynolds notched wedge for her later in the afternoon and brought my camera. The guy getting a shave is not me.

What does he charge for a shave?

Only $20. I should have asked for a second pass to get as close as I usually like. Next time I'll bring him a straight to try. He was hesitant to do that, but his boss, Joyce made it sound like a good thing, so now I'm getting nervous, to let him learn a real straight using my face.

Thanked: 1185If he can sling around a shavette and not draw blood, my guess is you're gonna be fine.
The older I get, the better I was

You're probably right. I told him I cut my face to shreds with a shavette and feel a lot safer shaving myself with a straight. Hey, I showed him a double edge razor, the slant and he thought that would be dangerous.
