Thanked: 1184It's the little things....
I don't think you get it. I am just a beginner at SR shaving also and I have had a few experiences I am excited about myself. I too know how to sharpen not only knives but several other tools as well. All of which have their own specific set of honing devices and methods of use. When I started looking into hones for razors I naturally went to my local knife shop and asked some questions but the answers didn't sound anything like what I was reading about razors. Why ? Because he is a knife guy not a razor guy. DOH ! Same reason I didn't ask him about my chainsaw blade. I did find the Norton 4/8 stone I was looking for at my wood working store but the guy there was honest enough to say he had no idea if it was the best for razors. In my beginnings I purchased a cheap razor (shave ready and I got one shave out of it and could not get it sharp enough to use again.) Cheap did not work for me. In fact it whipped me to death. These fellas have never made me feel like I had to do anything nor have I felt like their opinions should be mine. And I would never walk into someone's shop and start telling them how wrong they are in their advice even if I was some what knowledgeable. It works for them and that is what I am here to learn. I have read some of your advice and though it may be 1 way of doing it I hardly find it the best, let alone the correct way. Not everybody can pick up a razor and put and edge on it they can shave with. You can, I can, but the edge some of these guys can put on a razor will be better for your face, your razor, and the whole experience. I know a guy that can put an edge on an axe and shave with it but he doesn't do it everyday. So I have been as long winded as you in trying to help you get it. Although I have a sneaking suspicion you never will or your so antagonistic you don't care! I think you would have more fun and are better suited to be on Whipped Dog's forum :<0)
Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.

I get the feeling that you didnt do much reading on here since you say that nobody has an opinion, thats so far from the truth, there are other forums for that.Is your real name Murray Carter?
