Success! First shaving sharp razor
I just finished test shaving with an old razor I've been working on honing for a couple of sessions and I'm really excited because it's shaving sharp. I started out by working out a couple of tiny nicks in the blade and then making a even smooth bevel. Then I hit the 4k/8k, stropped and shaved with it. It's not perfect, maybe needs just a light touch up with 8k or a small pyramid, but it's definately sharp. It's much sharper than my new Dovo which I stopped working on to practice on this. I know I'm still a total beginner, and I have a lifetime of learning ahead but I finally feel like I am on my way to progress. Boy am I pleased right now.
Special thanks to Randy for giving me some friendly lessons and advice about honing and shave prep. Thanks to Lynn for a great DVD. Thanks also to everyone who replied to my posts on this board.
I'm going to try to post some more later, and contribute to the forum but that's all for now.

I had the same experience you did about three weeks ago. It IS a good feeling!
You think "how hard could it be to sharpen a razor if you have the right tools and a video to boot?"....well, I learned how hard it could be.
Congrats!

I started with a razor I bought from Urleebird, I think the greatest way to start. You get a shave ready razor you can start shaving with right away and you all so have some thing to compair your work with. Even with that it took some talking in the chat room and some great advice here before I finaly got a razor sharp enough I could shave with it. It's the greatest feeling to final get a shave out of a razor you sharpen your self.
