    Default SRD shopping

    hellou gentlemen,
so i just made a few purchases from SRD as the spirit of christmas overwhelmed me (too late thoug, but nonetheless it did ), from what ive read about it over here i have come to know that it is an excellent place to purchase shaving necessities. although, i do not know much about the following products that i have purchased. my cart included:

dovo best quality 5/8" blonde scales
    3" srd red latigo strop
a few saples of opus x and sandalwood srd soap
and finally taylor of old bond street sandalwood shaving cream 150g tub

i have been shaving with straights for about a month but this is my first real purchase. till now i have been using a stainless steel razor that my aunt gifted to me from Poland as a birthday gift, its quite sharp and provides a comfortable shave but sadly i dont know what its called so i took the liberty of naming it "the eradicator" lol. also, i received a vintage razor from my brother from seattle which also did an excellent job but a series of unfortunate events led me to send it out for repairs...makes my heart heavy. and for stropping ive been using whippeddog's poor man strop which has really worked well so far

so basically all i want to know is that is this a good purchase? apart form the cream and soaps (ofcourse) are the products listed above ready to last a lifetime with proper care? i mean from what ive seen on other sites good razors cost around $300 and strops around $180. so are these products what i need for my beginner's stage (As i still consider myself one) and ill have to transition to other higher end products or are they up for a lifetime? my order is currently processing and itll take a few weeks for it to get here so i was just wondering id spend the time learning about them and if any ssspecial or unique methods of care are required. Also, i didnt know where i shouldve posted this thread so i posted it here, i hope it doesnt upset the moderators
all your opinions are most appreciated as always

and a Merry Christmas to you all

Good purchase. I have a similar razor, I have the exact same strop (purchased from SRD), and I've had the cream before. All high end products. You should be able to shave like a pro with this setup. Good luck, & Merry Christmas!

And yes the razor and strop with proper care will last a lifetime and then some.

All great stuff! I started out with the same razor (black scales), and same strop from SRD. They served me well and I still use them today.

You'll like the Opus X as well!

I bought almost the same setup from SRD.Razor is a blond 6/8 full hollow and the SRD padle strop.Been using them almost a year,I oil the blade and pivot after each shave and every 4 months lightly oil the strop. No wear yet so I'm betting they will get passed to my son when the time comes.

That sounds great! seems like good stuff to pass down to your son! i too had considered a 6/8 but my neck is of the weirdest kind which makes it even harder to shave than the beard and moustache so ive discovered that a 5/8 provides perfect maneuvering without being too thin! the paddle seems like a great strop, do you own the modular? i am considering a modular for my next purchase

SRD doesn't sell junk & they stand behind everything they sell. That says a lot right there.

exactly, my question was merely if i was to ever grow out of these items since it says "beginners" everywhere but its nice to be assured how valuable these items are, im already considering the modular paddle and a dovo 5/8 silver steel ebony and gradually go up the dovo ladder..not that i need them but there is this uncontrollable desire to own them...along with a few other soaps
