Default How many of us are barbers?

This question popped into my head after reading a post in another thread, placed by a barber. First, how many active participants are on the SRP forum? And, out of them, how many are barbers, active or retired? Sorry if this info is somewhere on the site. I would just be hazarding a total guess but...maybe 5% might be barbers?

I know there are a couple - I am certainly not. Interesting question though.

My guess would be very few. The only barber that I personally know is retired and he said that he stopped long ago because only drunks came in and wanted a shave.

Gary Haywood, in the UK , is an active barber with years of experience. I recall at least one other member who is an active barber but I can't remember his screen name. I don't think he has been posting in the recent past.

In about four more weeks I will be a licensed barber-- and with any luck, an active member as well.

I am the son of a son of a Barber, but not a Barber. My youngest brother starts Barber School on the 7th so upon completion he will be a third generation barber.

I am a Barber, been licensed for 11 years. I shave daily with a straight razor and occassionally give shaves in the shop. If most Barbers are like I am, one man shop, all walk-in bussiness, we just don't have the time to do shaves. People today are to impatient and in a hurry to wait. Love doing shaves and will sometimes do them after or before bussiness hours. That's one reason I shave with a straight it gives me time to slow down and relax before going to work. Enjoy the New Year everybody.

that is a very valid point about everyone being in a hurry ... i remember my taking me to the barber shop / doughnut shop / and local little breakfast places on sat mornings ... he would always just get a hair cut on occasion , never a shave but the same people were always at the shop ( places we went ) and there were always conversation and good hunting /fishing storys ... the local barber is appointment only now and you almost never see more then 2 people in there at a time when you drive by and im sure there in and out as fast as they can get a cut and get back to the rush of life ..
