Thread: SR shaving on a cruise ship??

I doubt there are many members here nerdy enough to care, but in case anyone is wondering, it’s entirely possible to use a SR on a cruise ship. I just got back from a trip to the Bahamas with my family. What a blast! Not wanting to end my streak of shaving exclusively with a straight, I had no choice but to give maritime SR shaving a try. I was concerned about the ship’s motion causing troubles. However, I shaved mostly when we were docked at ports. And when I did end up shaving at sea, I found that the ship’s movement didn’t affect the process that much. The ships are quite large and motion is relatively minimal. I just braced an arm on the wall, winced, and got to it. Anyhow, I survived with no nicks.

As it happens, SWMBO and I just returned from our first cruise.

I was advised by the cruise line that cut-throats were not allowed on board so I took my DE - and I'm glad I did 'cause we were chased by a cyclone and it got a bit rough.

I went on a Disney cruise a little over a year ago and they would not allow any blades. I was not into straight shaving at the time, but it was the first and only time in decades that I have been without a knife of some sort in my pocket or on my side.

It was a great time and while the ship was a rocking at times, I experienced nothing during our cruise that would have impacted my ability to shave...but, heck, I get a weeper or two once in a while shaving on terra-firma

I would venture to guess old ones!

Took my SR on a cruise last year. It wasn't the motion that caused the problem, but the layout of the small sink and lav handle. I reached for the handle with my off hand and found the business edge of the razor. The ships doc was a really pretty, friendly young lady, and 7 stitches + $500 later, I found that for me, a DE makes a lot of sense on a ship!
