Thanked: 36Safe display
I've only got one straight razor so far, but RAD is taking hold fast. I've got my eye on a couple more simply because they're look really nice, and being born in Sheffield I'd love to own a nice Sheffield made razor. Or two. Or five....
Anyway, since these things look so great I'd like to have them where I can see them, but a lot of my friends have small kids and I'd feel awful if one of them came for a visit, found the razors and had an accident. If anyone could suggest a nice safe way to display my future collection I'd be really grateful. I've already had a quick look for display cabinets online and haven't seen anything that looked right yet, mostly things that were really big.

I can't help you much with this, for all my razors are hidden well away from the bathroom where they are used. If someone wants to see a razor, I can show them one. Otherwise, they'd never know I have any, and most people couldn't care less.

Safe display
I've got a simple shadow box with hinges and a magnet to keep it closed. I used some nail type picture hangers to hold the razors in there. It's mounted at about 5' 8" to keep little hands out. This way I'm able to see them and choose without risk of unwanted touchers

Thanked: 36Thanks for the suggestions. I never heard of a shadow box until now, but it looks like a nice idea. Not quite what I'd envisioned at first but it looks like it'd take up almost no space and I reckon it'd be quite easy to fit a lock if necessary. I'll look into it, and look out for glass fronted cabinets and things and see what I can find. Thanks again.

I have my razors in case out of my little boys reach for now, but i intend to put a lock on the case soon. I do agree with Ace with keeping the razors out of the bathroom, at least when you have people over visiting. I wouldn't worry so much about the children getting hurt just keep the razors out of reach, but I would be more concerned if one of your buddies (assuming they have zero experience with straight razors) tried to strop one of your razors whilst in the restroom and potentially ruining an edge or cutting a strop, or trying the finger-nail test to see how sharp a straight razor is. Best advice, out sight, out of mind when it comes to company.

Thanked: 36Out of the bathroom is definitely the plan, but mostly because I'm scared the moisture in the air in there could rust the blade. And you're right, buddies with no experience is more of a risk. I narrowly avoided having a friend run his thumb sideways across the blade to test the sharpness. I don't particularly care if guests see them, but I want to be able to look at them in all their splendour. I've found that people say daft things when they find out I have a straight razor. One friend said "But you don't have a beard", apparently not realizing that having a beard is something I'm trying to avoid by using the razor. I quite like the idea of a lockable shadow box on the bedroom wall.
