    Default My first shave

So I just got my first razor from my awesome girlfriend... Didn't get a close of a shave as I was expecting, but didn't kill myself either, just a little nic... I don't have any special soap or cream so I used what I have, Edge shave gel, how big a difference does that make? Also does application of shave soap or cream using brush rather thank your hands make a big difference?

    Thanks!

Well, generally around here you will find that gels, such as Edge, will be avoided. We call them 'canned goo' as a pejorative. Since starting out SR shaving I have not used anything other than soaps, creams and a brush. Can you use the goo? Sure. But why would you when there are better options. Also, the edge on your razor might need some fine tuning to get that extra fine edge. What sort of razor did you get?

Um, I hate to tell you but you might want to look into getting another razor. I think those are best to be avoided.

Well, some more experienced folks might chime in but they are not thought of as good shavers. Not unless that has changed recently. When I started shaving a picked up a DOVO. Btw, you are a lucky guy to have a gf buy you a straight. She might regret it once you start buying more and more of them!

Those razors are garbage and will never shave well or hold an edge.

    Sorry.
