Straight Shaving & Films
Anyone remember Antonio Bandaras shaving himself in Desperado?
Is it me or did he shave everything by going against the grain? It must have been a fake razor, otherwise his face wouldn't look that smooth!

I shave against the grain and get real smooth.

And you don't get any ingrown hairs or razor bumps?

I shave against the grain on a daily basis. Bumps and ingrowns are few and far between, and my skin is fairly sensitive.

Same here. With the grain, then against = super smooth. No problems at all PROVIDED the razor is truly sharp.

That sounds good. First with, then against. I will try that when I get my straight honed and sorted out.
I don't shave every day, usually it's every other day. That gives me a smoother shave over all, so I suppose going against the grain might be OK if I am shaving every other day.

Thanked: 0Last time I shaved against the grain was with my DE, before I got into straights. Did it as an experiment on one side of my face only. Beautifully smooth, lasted until the evening, but two days later had major irritation with many ingrown hairs. Never since.
I can use my str8 well across or 45 degrees down and get pretty darn close with only minimal ingrown hairs now (used to get them all the time with the DE or electric).

That's why I switched to shaving with a straight - so I could do my third, final pass against the grain with maximum comfort and minimum irritation - even my barber comments on the closeness of my shaves.
