Thanked: 8I'm in Houston this week
Are there any good shave shops I should check out? Vendors I should try to visit?

This probably comes to you too late, but I'll try anyway. There is a shop called Kuhl-Linscomb on Alabama, between Shepherd and Kirby (closer to Kirby) that carries all manner of shaving creams, soaps, brushes, oils, and aftershaves, but only one straight razor, Henckels. If you're up for a shave, go see the poeple at Shave Houston, on W. Dallas street. They use the Feather Artist straight razors, and give you absolutely royal treatment. If you are so inclined, you will be given a fat glass of whiskey for you to enjoy gratis. It's also right next to a great bar and grill called the Refinery. After a shave, haircut, and a few beers next door, I feel like I've been on vacation.
Cheers,
Jack

Thanked: 8Thank You very much Jack!
Fortunately I am in Houston at least once a month so I will definitely take your advice and head out for a much needed 'vacation'. I mostly stay in the Galleria area. Our office is near the big mall so I dont travel all too far away from the mothership. This will give me reason to venture out a bit more into the city. I think i'd better do this soon as the last time I was there it was already too hot and humid for me... I don't want to melt in the streets come mid August. How the heck do you guys survive the heat and humidity? I often hear from our Houston office that they prepare for the summer much like I prepare for winter. I'd rather suffer through -30 than pass out in 110 degrees with humidity!!! The shaving experience must be very different in those temperatures. Makes me wonder if that wouldn't be such a bad discussion topic here either. What do you need to adjust for a humid shave? Less lather? More lather? No hot towels? etc... On a similar note I noticed that the water in Houston is so much softer than Calgary. I needed half the fuel to make a really nice lather and my skin was super soft afterwards.
