Stung for tax importing to uk?
Has anybody been stung for tax trying to order shaving equipment from america? It seems that there is a much better variety of products and services available there than anywhere i found in the uk?

I'm getting the same issues here in Canada. Free trade my a$$. If we had real free trade, I would not have been taxed for that DOVO I got from Tony or that Cr2O3 I got from Keith
If the seller's nice, he will include a little gift with the shipment and mark it as a gift

This doesn't sound too promising. What proportion of the value of goods do you end up paying tax on? Just the standard for that country, or is it different because you are importing? I just cannot find more than basic supplies here in england and i am thinking that as i want more and more goodies to play with(as i probably will) that i may have to pay over the odds for it.

Sad to say but you fellows in the UK will likely get stung for at least the 17.5% VAT upon entry and maybe more. Even marking as a gift (actually illegal if not really a gift) may not remove the tax burden.
USPS shipments instead of UPS at least helps remove brokerage fees.

I know it just seems absurd that there are no shaving shops in the UK which have a really broad range, all you find is the same items in every shop. Anybody from the uk that knows different, please let me know!
Maybe it would be less worrying if i knew how much tax this would be, so i don't have to worry about it being double the value of the items!Last edited by nickyspaghetti; 01-24-2007 at 04:39 PM.

Well I guess 17.5% i might have to accept as inevitable, i guess living on an island does have its drawbacks. Any ideas on other issues of shipping over here, such as delivery times?

I started using Global Priority this year instead of Airmail Parcel Post as it is a little less expensive. It seems to take 7 to 10 days right now to arrive. Not sure how long Customs holds these up though.

What is the average price of delivery? I was thinking of ordering a razor and a paddle strop from you but was unsure of the details in ordering from abroad.

I've never had any problems in the EU. I know the UK is harder on that sort of stuff though. I don't know why. I got my TI from classicshaving and didn't have to pay anything extra.
