    Default Burnt Rubber Smell

Hope you guys can shed some light on a curious smell. My razors had been oiled and packed away for a few months whilst we sold our home, waiting to buy a new home. They were stored in my safe with desiccants for any moisture that might be in the air. Anyways, today I shaved with a Boker Red Injun and the scales had a smell that I can only describe as burnt rubber. I never noticed any peculiar odor before. I have not noticed this with any of my other razors. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

now that I think if it I had a dovo astral in my humidor for about 3 months and when I pulled it out and shaved with it......it smelled like burned rubber as well. I washed it off and chalked it up to the oil being on the scales. So I would like to know as well. The scales were plastic and I was using basic mineral oil. That is the only thing i could come up with-

Did Boker make scales from Gutta Percha or similar ?

They did use something either Gutta Percha or some vulcanized rubber stuff.
I have a set of the scales here.
They are black, the sanding dust is brown and smells of burnt tire.

As the wind blows it could,
I can sit out on the porch and hear the races and the drag way echo through the valley.
It is about 5 miles as the crow flies to the speedway.
The Jet flight path at the start of the race takes them right over the house.
